Republican French Language Olympiad Begins at Atyrau University

The official opening ceremony of the XVIII Republican Subject Olympiad in the French language was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University. Greta Comur Tiloua, Attaché of the Embassy of France in the Republic of Kazakhstan, attended the event as a special guest.

During the event, participants reviewed the achievements of the more than 10-year successful partnership between Atyrau University and the University of Poitiers in France. Today, more than 480 students study French as either their primary or second foreign language, while the Erasmus+ program annually provides students with opportunities to study at leading universities in France. According to this year’s selection results, seven more students will continue their studies at the University of Poitiers during the next academic year.

One of the major announcements made during the meeting was the opening of a French Language Center at the university. The center will not only provide in-depth French language instruction, but will also prepare students for international DELF examinations and organize specialized language courses for non-language majors.

In addition, the parties discussed plans to expand international cooperation, introduce French language studies in regional schools, and develop double-degree programs.
