Fact-Checking Training Held at Atyrau University

At Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, an offline training titled “FactCheck Dive Basics” was conducted by the MediaNet International Centre for Journalism. The three-day course brought together faculty members of Atyrau University, students of the Journalism program, as well as media professionals from districts of Atyrau region and the city of Aktau.
The training aimed to combat misinformation in the media and to equip participants with methods and tools for verifying information. Participants learned the fundamentals of fact-checking, how to distinguish facts from opinions, how to work with open sources, detect logical fallacies, verify photos and videos, and fact-check public promises.
During hands-on sessions, participants worked with real-life examples and independently created their own fact-checking articles.
Supported by Atyrau University, the training was led by media experts Duman Smakov, Duman Terlikbayev, and Janserik Tileukhan, who shared not only theoretical knowledge but also valuable practical experience.
On the final day of the course, participants presented their projects and received feedback. Upon completion, they were awarded certificates for successfully finishing the training. Additionally, participants will receive ongoing mentorship and online support over the next two months.
