March 17 – Day of Culture and National Traditions

At Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, a festive evening titled “The Prosperity of the Shanyrak Lies in Unity” was held as part of the Nauryz holiday celebrations.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, and Information Technologies and brought together university leadership, faculty members, and students in a warm and engaging atmosphere that celebrated cultural heritage and national unity.
“This year, as per tradition, the Nauryz holiday is being celebrated over ten days in the format of “Nauryznama”. For the Kazakh people, the shanyrak is a sacred symbol. When we offer our best wishes, we first wish well-being to the shanyrak; when young people start a family, we say, “May your shanyrak be high.” That is why the shanyrak can be seen as a symbol of unity in both family and country. I believe today’s event is a significant step in promoting our national values and traditions among the youth. I wish everyone a joyful Amal holiday!” said University Rector Salamat Idrissov in his welcoming speech.
During the celebration, students and teachers presented performances and scenes highlighting national values, performed traditional songs, and played traditional instruments. Departments of the faculty were divided into symbolic auyl groups: “Myn Tobe,” “Bereke,” “Asyl Mura,” and “Kazyna,” each presenting vibrant sketches that reflected Kazakh traditions. Additionally, kuis (instrumental musical pieces) prepared by faculty and students were performed, and the second-year students’ performance “The Choice of a Kazakh Girl” made a strong impression on the audience.
At the end of the evening, all participants sang Kazakh songs together and enjoyed traditional dishes from the festive dastarkhan.
