Infrastructure Modernization and Caspian Sea Preservation Discussed at Atyrau University

Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University hosted a roundtable discussion on “Sustainable Development of Kazakhstan: Infrastructure Modernization, Caspian Sea Protection, and Environmental Awareness” as part of the nationwide discussions of the President’s Address to the Nation.

The event brought together faculty members, scholars, representatives of public organizations, and students.

The main goal of the roundtable was to discuss the sustainable development priorities outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his Address, particularly the improvement of water infrastructure, the preservation of the Caspian Sea’s water resources, and the promotion of ecological culture within the framework of the “Clean Kazakhstan” campaign.

Several presentations were delivered during the meeting. Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mansiya Yesenamanova, spoke about the historical changes in the Caspian Sea level. Head of the NGO “Globus Center for Environmental and Legal Initiatives,” Galina Chernova, analyzed the challenges to preserving the sea. Head of the Science and Monitoring Department of the “Akzhaiyk” State Nature Reserve, Nazerke Makhmetova, presented measures for protecting the biodiversity of the Caspian.

Director of the “Zhaiyk-Caspian Aarhus Center,” Shynar Izteleuova, and lawyer Aigul Kenzhaliyeva emphasized the importance of public opinion and the protection of environmental rights.

At the conclusion of the roundtable, participants stressed the need to develop dedicated programs for the preservation of the Caspian Sea, as well as the importance of systematically introducing environmental education from schools to higher education institutions.
