Scientists from Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov are participating in the international Global Fishery Forum 2026, currently being held in St. Petersburg, Russia.
As part of Global Fishery Forum 2026, a conference titled “Caspian Without Borders: Science, Ecology and Digital Technologies in the Interests of the Fisheries Sector” was held.
The event brought together representatives of scientific, educational and industry organizations from Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and the Republic of Cyprus. Participants discussed the development of fisheries education, scientific research, digitalization of the sector, conservation of aquatic biological resources, and sustainable development of the Caspian region.
At the international forum, Kazakhstani scientists, alongside foreign researchers, delivered presentations and introduced research conducted in Kazakhstan within the framework of the forum’s key topics.
At the forum, Gulshat Zhumatova, Head of the Caspian Laboratory for Integrated Research and Monitoring at Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov, delivered a presentation titled “Development of Fisheries Education and Scientific Research at Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov: Sustainable Development, Digitalization and Conservation of the Ural–Caspian Ecosystem.”
Today, Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov is actively engaged in training specialists in the field of fisheries. The university’s Caspian Laboratory for Integrated Research and Monitoring conducts scientific research. One of the laboratory’s main areas of activity is the study of the ecological condition of the Ural–Caspian Basin, the conservation of aquatic biological resources, and scientific contributions to the sustainable development of the region.
In this context, as part of the international forum, Gulshat Zhumatova, Head of the Caspian Laboratory for Integrated Research and Monitoring, and forum delegate Gulnara Saparova, Associate Professor of the Department of Biology and Fisheries, presented the university scientists’ research areas, scientific proposals, and significant projects related to current environmental issues and key challenges facing the fisheries sector in the Atyrau region.
In addition, Saule Assylbekova, a prominent Kazakhstani scientist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “Distribution of Commercial Fish Species in the Kazakhstani Sector of the Caspian Sea Based on Trawl and Hydroacoustic Survey Data.”
The participation of Atyrau University scientists in Global Fishery Forum 2026 provided an opportunity to exchange experience, strengthen international scientific and educational cooperation, and discuss joint solutions aimed at conserving the biological resources of the Caspian region and ensuring the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.
