On June 26, 2026, the Atyrau City Housing and Communal Services and Housing Inspection Department organized a working meeting dedicated to the approval of a three-year comprehensive disinsection program for the city of Atyrau.
The meeting was chaired by Shakir Keikin, Akim of Atyrau. Participants included akims of suburban rural districts, representatives of organizations responsible for mosquito control and vector management, E. M. Adiyetova, Director of the Department of Science at Khalel Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, G. A. Saparova, Candidate of Biological Sciences and Associate Professor, as well as specialists from other relevant government agencies.
The participants discussed ways to organize disinsection activities on a scientific basis, improve their effectiveness, and strengthen cooperation among government institutions.
The meeting also featured a discussion on one of Atyrau’s pressing environmental issues—the ecological role of mosquitoes and their impact on human life. Experts emphasized that mosquitoes play an important role in the ecosystem by serving as a food source for many species of birds, fish, and insects. At the same time, they noted that mosquitoes cause significant discomfort to people and may contribute to the transmission of certain infectious diseases.
In this regard, it was explained that the primary objective of disinsection activities is not the complete eradication of mosquitoes, but rather the regulation of their population to levels that comply with sanitary standards through scientifically based and environmentally safe methods.
As a result of the meeting, participants reviewed proposals aimed at improving the city's sanitary and epidemiological situation. A scientific expert group was established, and all participants agreed to continue their joint efforts to ensure the effective implementation of disinsection measures in Atyrau.
