Science Without Borders: Meeting with an Iranian Scholar in Atyrau

On September 24, 2025, the Faculty of Multilingual Education held the first session of its Academic School for the new academic year. The event was organized by the Department of Russian Philology. Faculty members and master's students took part in the meeting. The participants were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor M.K. Amangaziyeva.

The meeting was moderated by Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor S.S. Dutbayeva.

The keynote guest of the session was Dr. Sevinj Gamilyevna Mehtikhanli, Doctor of Philological Sciences from the University of Guilan (Iran).

She is currently carrying out academic activities at H. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University within the framework of the academic mobility program.

In her presentation, the scholar discussed issues of comparative linguoculturology. Particular attention was paid to speech etiquette in Kazakh, Russian, and Persian cultures.

The audience showed great interest in the examples of the Iranian practice of Ta’arof—a distinctive system of polite behavior and conventional speech formulas.

The second part of the session featured the presentation of a new textbook entitled Russian Language: A Linguocultural Perspective.

The authors of the publication are N.B. Kairliyeva, L.B. Alekeshova, and U.Z. Dzhumagaliyeva. The textbook includes practical tasks, reading materials, tests, and an electronic version.

In keeping with tradition, the guests were presented with copies of the book signed by the authors.

The session concluded with a photo shoot held against the backdrop of the national flags of Kazakhstan and Iran.
