International Conference Dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of Olzhas Suleimenov

An international conference titled “The Works of O. Suleimenov in the Context of Kazakh, Russian, and World Culture” was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University to mark the 90th anniversary of the outstanding poet, researcher, and public figure Olzhas Suleimenov.

The event, organized by the Department of Russian Philology, aimed to highlight the significance of the poet’s творчество within Kazakh, Russian, and global culture, as well as his contribution to literature and public thought.

Rector Salamat Idrissov attended the gathering and emphasized the importance of Olzhas Suleimenov’s work in the development of public consciousness. During the conference, Olzhas Suleimenov was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University.

The conference, moderated by Professor Zh. Kenzhebayeva, brought together international scholars and researchers in both online and offline formats. Among the participants were Svetlana Ananyeva and Almira Kaliyeva from the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, Azerbaijani philologist and Associate Professor Sevda Rzayeva and Professor Farakh Jalil, as well as Turkish professors Gulmira Kuruoglu, Hikmet Korash, Ekrem Ayan, and Adem Oger. Scholars from Uzbekistan, including Tursynai Tortkulbayeva and Yrysty Kuttymuratova, along with well-known Kazakh researchers Mukhtar Mirov, Alibek Baibol, Bibikhan Myrzabek, Chairman of the “Bylina” Association Andrey Korablev, and Professor Saniya Kamelova, delivered scientific and educational presentations on the phenomenon of Olzhas Suleimenov.

The evening program continued with poetry readings and artistic performances. University students and pupils of the “Ustaz” school recited selected works of the writer in Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish, and Chinese, demonstrating the multilingual nature of Olzhas Suleimenov’s poetry. Young performers also staged “The Last Song of Poet Smet,” while traditional dombra music enriched the atmosphere of the event.

At the end of the conference, participants visited the extensive book exhibition titled “Olzhas Suleimenov: Poet, Thinker, Diplomat” and exchanged views.
