A republican scientific and practical seminar titled “Scholar. Journalist. Leader: The Legacy of Kylyshbay Sundetuly”, dedicated to the memory of Candidate of Historical Sciences and member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan Kylyshbay Sundetuly, was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University.
Colleagues, students, and followers of Kylyshbay Sundetuly from across the country gathered to take part in the event.
During the seminar, Chairman of the Board -Rector Salamat Idrissov spoke about the scholar’s contribution to education and science:
“Kylyshbay Sundetuly devoted his life to education and research, making a significant contribution to national journalism and historical studies. He played a key role in the development of our university and trained many highly qualified specialists. His rich scientific legacy is an invaluable asset for future generations. Today’s meaningful event aims to honor this legacy and instill its value in the younger generation,” the rector noted.
Aigul Mukasheva, Chairperson of the Sectoral Trade Union of Education, Science and Higher Education Workers of Kazakhstan, highlighted Kylyshbay Sundetuly’s ability to combine scientific work with trade union activities.
During the seminar, senior lecturer of the Department of Journalism and Public Relations, Lazzat Mazhitova, presented a report on the scholar’s work at the university, his teaching career, and his role in science, also sharing personal memories.
Muktar Abilseit, Director of the “Saraishyk” State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor, emphasized the scholar’s significant contribution to the study of the history of Kazakh press.
Dias Aibarov, a chief specialist of the Organizational and Control Department of the Inder District Akimat and a former student of Kylyshbay Sundetuly, delivered a presentation on his mentor’s role in journalism and his legacy as an educator.
As part of the seminar, a presentation ceremony of Kylyshbay Sundetuly’s book “A Book About Books” was held. The book was officially launched by Doctor of Philology Kadyr Zhusip and Aigul Mukasheva. In addition, the book “Kylyshtyń Kynaly Zhyry” by Maksat Tazhimurat, dedicated to Kylyshbay Sundetuly, was presented by Mukhtar Abilseit and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Akkali Akhmet.
During the discussion session, Gulbaram Nauryzbayeva, Chairperson of the Pavlodar Regional Organization of the Sectoral Trade Union, shared interesting facts from the journalist’s life.
His colleague, historian, local historian, and scholar, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Shakhman Nagimov, emphasized that Kylyshbay Sundetuly was a unique personality who successfully combined journalism and history:
“He held the reins of two powerful forces – journalism and history,” he said.
Marat Konyrbayev, Chairperson of the Local Trade Union of Education, Science and Budgetary Organizations of Ulytau Region, shared heartfelt memories of his close friend and colleague, highlighting his human qualities.
Alibek Semgaliyev, Chairperson of the Atyrau Regional Trade Union Center, also expressed warm words as a colleague. Meanwhile, his longtime friend from Komsomol years, member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan Abilkhan Toleuishov, recalled him with emotion, saying: “A person never truly dies if they leave descendants behind.”
During the event, Saltanat Rakhimova, Chairperson of the Atyrau Regional Branch of the Sectoral Trade Union of the Oil and Gas Complex of Kazakhstan, performed a heartfelt musical tribute that deeply moved the audience.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants emphasized that Kylyshbay Sundetuly left an indelible mark on science and higher education, concluding with the thought: “A scholar’s legacy never fades.” The final word was given to the scholar’s spouse, who expressed her gratitude to all guests and colleagues for honoring his memory.
