A gala evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Fatima Balgaeva was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University. The event aimed to revive the creative legacy of the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan and founder of professional kobyz performance art, as well as to introduce the younger generation to her outstanding contribution to Kazakh music.

During the event, information about the musician’s life and career was presented, and the distinctive features of her performance school were discussed in detail. The evening continued with a class concert led by senior lecturer of the Department of Music and Arts, G.K. Dzhumatayeva.

Young kobyz performers demonstrated their professional skills on stage, performing selected works from Fatima Balgayeva’s repertoire. In particular, “Zhez Kiyik” by Ykylas Dukenuly and “Akku” by Nurgisa Tlendiyev made a strong impression on the audience.

In addition, the suite “Bozaigyr” by Yevgeny Brusilovsky, as well as “Romance” and “Aria” by Akhmet Zhubanov, highlighted the wide expressive capabilities of the instrument. Works such as “Fatima Saryny” by A. Kazakhbayev and “Otan - Ana” by K. Shildebayev were also performed by young talents in a renewed interpretation.

Furthermore, Daniel van Goens’ “Scherzo” from Western classical repertoire was performed, and a kobyz ensemble presented a medley of folk songs.

Young musicians performed solo, as well as in duets and trios, clearly demonstrating the continuity of the professional kobyz school.
