Financial Security in the 21st Century Discussed at Regional Forum

A regional forum titled “Financial Security: Digital Traps in the 21st Century” was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University.
During the opening ceremony, Rector Salamat Idrissov emphasized the importance of financial security:
“Today’s forum serves as a significant platform to comprehensively discuss the risks of the modern financial system and the relevance of financial literacy in the digital world. The digital transformation of the 21st century brings both new opportunities and considerable threats. In this context, it is our shared responsibility to thoroughly study issues of financial security and propose concrete solutions.”
The forum focused on raising awareness about widespread financial fraud in society, particularly financial pyramids and online scams, as well as promoting financial literacy among youth. The event brought together representatives from the Atyrau Regional Department of Digitalization and Archives, the Regional Department and Divisions of Education, the Atyrau branch of the “Zhastar Rukhy” youth wing under the “AMANAT” party, as well as faculty members and students of Atyrau University.
Highlighting the forum’s goals, Deputy Head of the Atyrau Regional Department for Economic Investigations Balnur Yesengeldinov stated:
“Our main objective is to increase your financial literacy and teach you how to avoid fraudulent schemes. Today, speakers will present real-life experiences and explain modern scam tactics.”
Head of the Investigation Division of the same department, Yerdos Moldabekov, delivered a presentation on types of financial fraud and strategies for protection. Additionally, Gulzhanat Yelemes, a third-year student of the “Accounting, Auditing and Analysis of Business Processes” program, provided an in-depth analysis of financial pyramid schemes and their common characteristics:
“A financial pyramid is a fraudulent scheme in which payments to earlier participants are made using contributions from new ones. Typical signs include promises of high and fast returns, dependency on recruiting new members, lack of legal documentation and licenses, lack of transparency, aggressive advertising, inclusion in official lists of suspicious companies, pressure to join quickly, vague or misleading information, and use of ‘fake’ contracts that are legally invalid.”
The forum also featured a short video presentation on fraud schemes, followed by a theatrical performance “Financial Pyramid” by the “SAF” student theatre. Students from the “Ustaz” school and the Faculty of Economics and Law presented a powerful message through their slogan:
“A pyramid is a scam! No to fraud! We support law and order!” — drawing the attention of the audience.
The regional forum concluded with a Q&A session and an open exchange of views among participants.
