“Maslenitsa” Celebration Held at Atyrau University
The traditional Maslenitsa celebration took place at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University.
Maslenitsa marks the farewell to winter and the welcoming of spring. The celebration represents not only Russian cultural traditions but also the unity of the people of Kazakhstan. Organized by the Department of Russian Philology, the event aimed to familiarize students with Russian traditions and holidays, develop communicative skills, and strengthen cooperation between the university and other educational institutions.
The event was attended by students from Secondary School No. 42 and Multidisciplinary School-Gymnasium No. 34 of Atyrau City, as well as university faculty and students. Dean of the Faculty of Multilingual Education, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor Meruyert Amangaziyeva, opened the celebration and congratulated participants.
As part of the program, first- and third-year students presented a video about Maslenitsa and recited festive poems. A highlight of the evening was the modern theatrical performance “Winter Does Not Want to Leave,” staged by third-year students. The humorous play depicted the symbolic struggle between Winter and Spring, incorporating elements of contemporary student life.
The musical program featured a traditional folk dance performed by first-year students, the song “Atyrau Arman,” and the instrumental piece “Balbyrauyn.” Fifth-grade students from Secondary School No. 42 performed the dance “Valenki.”
One of the most anticipated segments was the traditional Pancake Competition, where participants presented homemade pancakes with various fillings and creative displays. The jury evaluated taste and presentation to determine the winners. The program also included modern dances and popular songs.
Additionally, a traditional dombyra performance contest was held, showcasing the talents of young musicians. The participation of students from various disciplines demonstrated creative unity and cultural diversity.
