A congratulatory message from the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, on the occasion of April 12 - Science Workers’ Day.
Dear colleagues, esteemed members of the intellectual community,
I sincerely congratulate you on Science Workers’ Day in Kazakhstan!
Today, we gather to honor representatives of the scientific community who shape the intellectual potential of the nation and lay the foundation for the future. This is a clear reflection of the state’s strong support for science.
Recently, our new Constitution, adopted with the support of the people, for the first time identified the development of human capital, science, and innovation as a strategic priority of the state.
This reflects a fundamental vision that the country’s development should rely not only on natural resources but primarily on human capital, an educated nation, and intellectual potential.
During a meeting with the scientific community, the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasized:
“Science must become the main driver of the country’s development. We must connect science with the real economy and turn its results into public benefit.”
This is a key strategic direction of today’s science policy.
Currently, more than 25,000 scientists in Kazakhstan are engaged in research and development. Among them are thousands of young researchers, PhD holders, and highly qualified specialists. Over 400 scientific organizations and universities are conducting research across the country. In recent years, funding for science has increased significantly, and concrete steps are being taken to raise the share of science in GDP.
The international standing of Kazakhstani scientists is also growing. Their work is increasingly published in reputable journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, with steadily rising citation rates. This demonstrates the strengthening position of Kazakhstan’s science in the global research community.
In addition, support systems for young scientists are expanding, including research grants, internships, and international cooperation programs. This is a key factor in ensuring sustainable development and continuity in science.
Dear scientists! Your work is the foundation of the nation’s future. Serving science with dedication is a great responsibility. Your research and discoveries contribute to Kazakhstan’s sustainable development, technological progress, and global competitiveness.
Special hopes are placed on young researchers. You are the new generation of science and the carriers of new ideas. We are confident that your bold initiatives and fresh perspectives will drive the country’s scientific advancement.
The key task ahead is to strengthen the link between science and industry, develop university-based research, and transform Kazakhstan into a regional scientific hub. Science must not remain merely theoretical - it must produce tangible economic impact.
Dear colleagues! Investment in science is an investment in the future of the country. This work will not only continue but rise to a new level.
I wish you good health, great success, and new scientific achievements!
May Kazakhstan’s science continue to flourish!
Sincerely,
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Sayasat Nurbek
