On June 14, 1950, based on the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR, the Guryev Regional Executive Committee adopted a decision “On the opening of a Teachers’ Institute in the city of Guryev.” According to this decision, an educational institution was opened. At the Guryev Teachers’ Institute, the departments of Philology and Physics and Mathematics functioned. In 1955, the Physics and Mathematics Department was reorganized into a faculty.

In the 1955–1956 academic year, 125 students were admitted to the first year. Of these, 50 were enrolled in the Russian department and 75 in the Kazakh department. The number of pedagogical staff at the faculty increased, and in 1958 the team was joined by graduates of Kazakh State University (KazSU) and Kazakh Pedagogical Institute (KazPI): A. Zhalgasov, Zh.K. Bliev, A.H. Naubetov, A.M. Mostovoy, M.N. Nakonechny, L.I. Nakonechnaya; a graduate of the Almaty Agricultural Institute Zh.M. Esmukhanov; and Yu.A. Medvedov from M. Gorky University in Russia. In 1964–1965, the teaching staff was replenished with specialists including KazSU graduates Zh.M. Rashbaev, Z.Zh. Zhumanova, D. Diarov, and a graduate of the Women’s Pedagogical Institute T.Zh. Zhumanova, among others.

In 1960, the faculty began training teachers with a broad profile in mathematics, physics, and technical drawing, and later specialists in labor education and machine science.

Through the efforts of the faculty’s teachers and students, a machine science laboratory was established, as well as an educational workshop equipped with woodworking, metalworking (locksmith), and turning (lathe) sections.

The following members of the teaching staff, who came to Atyrau from central higher educational institutions by ministerial assignment and worked during the formation of the faculty, made a significant contribution to providing students with quality education and training qualified specialists.
