Department history
In 1940, when the Teachers' Institute was established in Guryev, a department of language and literature was established, consisting of 4 teachers. They were N.E.Bakharev, a graduate of KazGU, philologists Y.P.Tsykunov and G.Kadyrova, a teacher of one of the city's schools who taught Russian literature, L.P.Azovskaya.
In 1950, the Guryev Teachers' Institute was reopened.
In 1955, the Guryev Pedagogical Institute was formed on the basis of the Guryev Teachers' Institute. The broad-based specialties "Russian language and Literature" and "Kazakh language and Literature" were introduced.
In 1959, the first graduation of the Faculty of Philology took place.
Russian Language and Literature Methods Department was disbanded in the 1980s, and the teaching staff was divided into the Department of Modern Russian Language and the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature. The department became known as the Department of Russian Language and Teaching Methods.
At the beginning of the 1997-1998 academic year, as a result of the merger of the two departments, a new department of Russian Philology was formed.
In the 2014-2015 academic year, the department expanded due to the addition of members of the Department of Kazakh Philology and Journalism – it became the Department of Russian Philology and Journalism.
In 2017-2018, the Department of Russian Philology was separated from the Department of Journalism.
Russian Philology Department has been recruiting undergraduates in the specialty "Russian Language and Literature" for the first time in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Russian Philology Department maintains close relations with public education authorities: meetings are regularly held with teachers of schools, colleges of the city and the region, members of the department give lectures at advanced training courses of the Central Research Institute "Orleu", are members of the jury at regional Olympiads of schoolchildren and students in Russian language and literature, carry out extensive career guidance work.
Russian language and culture Since 2018, the department has been working closely with the Bylina ethnocultural Association (chairman – entrepreneur, philanthropist Korablev AA), which plays a major role in the development of the Russian language and Russian culture.
Russian Language, Literature and Culture Center was opened on November 25, 2020, at the initiative of the Russian ethnocultural association "Bylina" and the Department of Russian Philology of the Faculty of Multilingual Education of the Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University with the support of the Consulate General of Russia and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Kazakhstan, where various scientific, methodological and educational events are held. Russian Russian language and literature is promoted, Russian culture is introduced, cultural heritage is explored in different countries, and methodological assistance is provided to teachers, students, and undergraduates in scientific research.
