This monographic study is the first scholarly work to examine the poems of Magzhan Zhumabayev, a prominent representative of early twentieth-century Kazakh literature, as a special object of research. The monograph explores the poet’s literary image in relation to the socio-historical context of the early twentieth century, which shaped his civic position and moral principles. Particular attention is paid to the genre characteristics of Zhumabayev’s poems, their plot foundations (historical, legendary, and literary), and the artistic system of the works as expressed through their ideological and thematic motifs. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in philology, Kazakh language and literature, as well as for a wider readership interested in literary studies and Kazakh literature.

This collection includes the author’s articles written in different years and devoted to various issues of Kazakh literature. The papers examine the works of literary scholars and present a number of literary portraits. A separate section is devoted to studies on the works of M. Zhumabayev. The book also contains analytical studies of the works of the writers A. Kekilbayev and O. Bokeyev. The publication is intended for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in Kazakh literature, as well as for young researchers and a broad readership interested in literary studies.
