The Faculty of Humanities and Arts is one of the oldest and most fundamental structural divisions of Atyrau University. The history of the faculty dates back to 1950. Initially, it was established within the Faculty of Philology and Geography, and in 1959 it was reorganized into the Faculty of History and Philology.

In 2006, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Humanities, and since August 8, 2017, it has been officially known as the Faculty of Humanities and Arts. The change in name reflects the expansion of academic fields and the institutional strengthening of the arts.

Over the years, the faculty has been led by distinguished and experienced administrators recognized in education and science: L.P. Azovskaya, L.I. Bely, Z.A. Aldamzhar, N.I. Otegenov, N.E. Bakharev, Zh.B. Baki, I.K. Kameshev, G.N. Nygmet, A.S. Imangaliyev, A.S. Sarsenov, T.T. Tolepbergen, Zh.Zh. Mustafin, S.I. Kamelova, K. Sundetuly, G.K. Kairgaliyeva, D.U. Khamidullina, S.B. Aimuratov, B.B. Korgan. Each of them made a significant contribution to the formation of the faculty’s academic school, strengthening of its human resources, and improvement of educational quality.

Currently, the faculty is headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences Sagyngerey Bolatkaliuly Aimuratov. Under his leadership, systematic work is being carried out to modernize the educational process, develop research activities, and expand international cooperation.

 

 

 

 

Mission and Strategic Directions

The main goal of the faculty is to train highly qualified specialists in the fields of humanities, pedagogy, and social sciences, who possess modern information technologies and are competitive in the labor market.

The key priorities of the faculty include:

• improving the quality of education to meet international standards;

• systematic development of research activities;

• implementation of innovative teaching technologies;

• strengthening links with the labor market;

• supporting students’ scientific and creative potential;

• expanding academic mobility and international cooperation.

 

Educational programs are designed to comprehensively develop students’ professional competencies through the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

 

Faculty Structure

The faculty consists of 4 departments:

• Department of Kazakhstan and World History

• Department of Journalism and Public Relations

• Department of Music and Arts

• Department of Fine Arts and Design

 

More than 60 faculty members work in these departments, including professors, doctors and candidates of sciences, master’s degree holders, and industry professionals with practical experience.

More than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students study at the faculty. The educational process is organized in accordance with modern standards and includes professional practice, research projects, and creative activities.

 

Alumni Achievements

Graduates of the faculty play an important role in the socio-political, scientific, and cultural life of the country. Among them are members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctors of Philosophy, professors K.E. Yermekov, A.A. Aitaly, public figure S. Yergenov, prominent scholars A.S. Imangaliyev, A.K. Mukhtar, G.K. Kenzhebayev, A.K. Akhmet, U.T. Akhmetova, L.B. Berdigozhin, and others.

Alumni successfully work in education, mass media, cultural and artistic institutions, public administration, law enforcement agencies, as well as in all regions of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries.

 

 

Student Environment and Scientific-Creative Activities

The faculty provides a favorable environment for the comprehensive development of students. Various student organizations actively participate in the university’s social and cultural life:

• “Smart Students” Council;

• “1986” Debate Club;

• “Aktanger” Poetry Club;

• “Asemqonyr” Dombra Ensemble;

• student orchestra and other creative associations.

 

Students actively participate in national and international scientific conferences, academic competitions, festivals, and creative contests, consistently demonstrating high achievements.
