“Russian Language: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”
A roundtable discussion titled “Russian Language: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University in honor of the Day of Slavic Script and Culture. The event aimed to introduce participants to the legacy of Cyril and Methodius - the founders of the Cyrillic alphabet - and their contribution to the development of Slavic writing, as well as to promote the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Russian language.
The event brought together university professors, students, members of the “Bylina” ethnocultural association, and teachers from Atyrau city schools.
Organized by the Department of Russian Philology, the roundtable opened with welcoming speeches from Dean of the Faculty of Multilingual Education Meruyert Amangaziyeva, Head of the Department of Russian Philology Uzima Dzhumagaliyeva, Vice-Consul of the Russian Federation in Oral (Uralsk) Konstantin Pogorelsky, and Chairman of the “Bylina” ethnocultural association Andrey Koroblyov, among others.
“I sincerely congratulate you on this wonderful holiday - the Day of Slavic Script and Culture - as well as on your professional holiday, Philologist’s Day, celebrated on May 25. Our cooperation with Atyrau University has continued since 2017. The Department of Russian Philology is one of the founding units of the university, as it laid the groundwork for the former institute. I wish the department continued success and prosperity!” said Andrey Koroblyov.
As a token of appreciation, Mr. Koroblyov presented the Department of Russian Philology with a four-volume set of the “Dictionary of the Dialects of the Ural (Yaik) Cossacks”, expressing confidence that the work would be valuable for the university’s academic endeavors.
During the roundtable, participants discussed the current state of the Russian language, its role in Kazakhstan and abroad, stylistic features of contemporary Russian-language authors, and the presence of Russian among youth populations.
The series of presentations began with Svetlana Fadina, a representative of the ethnocultural association, who spoke on the promotion of Russian language learning among adolescents and youth. Other notable speakers included Professor of Russian Philology, PhD in Philology, Saniya Kamelova; methodologist of the Department of Education Aisulu Adilova; teacher at the K. Satpayev School Gulmira Tilegenova; and 4th-year students Nurikamal Kylyshbek and Raikhan Kasmagambetova.
At the conclusion of the event, participants received certificates and gathered for commemorative photographs.
